Why Seal coat Your Pavement?

Sealcoating is an important part of asphalt pavement maintenance. The sealcoat material is an emulsion that protects the asphalt from harmful UV rays, weather, grease, oil, and other harmful agents. Before sealcoat is applied, cracks must be cleaned and filled, grease and oil spots removed, and pavement structural failures must be repaired.

  • What is the basic technology of asphalt pavement?

Asphalt pavement is usually approximately 95 percent aggregate, which could be stone, sand, or gravel, and 5 percent asphalt cement as a binder. The binder is a product of oil refining and acts to glue the aggregates together.

  • Is asphalt generally considered to be less expensive than concrete?

There have been numerous studies within the U.S. and Europe that have shown that asphalt pavements generally have a lower life cycle cost.

  • How long should you let your driveway/parking lot cure?

Depending on the temperature and humidity of the air, your new driveway or parking lot should be allowed to cure for 48 to 72 hours. Keeping people, cars, bikes, etc. off it during that time is important.

    AVOID:

    • Parking your car in the same spot all the time.
    • Parking motorcycles and bicycles on the driveway (kickstands can penetrate the surface).
    • Sitting in lawn chairs on the pavement.
    • Wearing high-heeled shoes on the pavement.
    • Parking a trailer or boat on the pavement without putting a piece of plywood beneath each wheel and the trailer hitch to diffuse the weight. The same holds true when using a car jack.
    • Over time your new driveway/parking lot will become less "tender", but it will always remain flexible.
  • How can I contact you?

There are several ways to contact us at Hard Top Paving & Seal Coating. You can call us at 843-324-7615. You can email us at stevensluke2005@gmail.com. Whatever method you choose, someone will contact you as soon as possible.
